I am a runner.

Of course, there are a few things that some might say counter the above claim - I'm still a runner. What are those things that may cause doubt? Some might say my age - 60 at the time of this writing and some may say an injury that has plagued me for the past 1 and 1/2 years. Regardless I'm a runner. My passion for running greatly exceeds any negatives and in reality all negatives simply make us better for not admitting defeat.

I didn't start running until late in life at the age of 52. Running has totally changed every aspect of my being. I started walking and jogging in the spring of 2001. I worked my way up from gasping for air after a block to running continuously for 6 miles. I ran my first race, a 10k, in the spring of 2002 and have been hooked on road racing ever since. I run everything from 5k to the marathon with the marathon being my favorite. I really don't feel right until my legs are moving faster than a walk.

Because I love to run, I also love to research, read and share my knowledge about running. The desire to share and to be taught has prompted Running the Road. As like all runners, I have discovered a community of people who share the same enthusiasm and determination to run the road. I do not lay any claim to having superior knowledge or answers in any one area. I do know that I have picked through countless books and spent many enjoyable hours gleaning knowledge from those who have a thorough knowledge of running. Running the Road is meant to be a website that incorporates not only my knowledge but the knowledge and insights of the community I have discovered: a great community of runners.

As with most runners, I have gone through the trial and error of new techniques and discovered that some work and some do not work. I have also discovered that what works for me won't necessarily work for the next runner or with a few alterations may work just fine. The knowledge I have gathered and I discuss in the pages of this website are my opinions and my experiences put forth solely for edification, and I hope for a return in conversation and further edification.

Running the Road is just in its infancy. If I may have your patience there will be plenty of content pertaining to every aspect of running including a forum where others with that same uncontrollable passion for running may share their own views, ideas and training methods.

Running the Road is for all; whether you are just thinking about starting to run, a beginner, fitness, track or trail runner or into road racing as I am, all are welcome no matter race, nationality or religion.

With that said, I will share with you whom I run to - I am a believer in Jesus Christ; He is my Lord and Savior. It wouldn't be right for me to bring this to a close without asking you to invite Him into your life. The Bible says "now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2nd Cor. 6:2." So it is my prayer that you invite Him into your life without delay! The final decision is yours.

At this time I want to thank my niece Sandy who, without her expertise in starting a website, Running The Road .com would never have gotten off the ground. She has spent many, many hours doing the mind boggling task of putting it all together while I sit watching over her shoulder, scratching my head trying to figure out what she is doing. She even edits my articles! Am I a lucky uncle or what? Thanks Sandy. I love ya.

Now run and enjoy every step
